Emmy Margrete was born in Sweden and came to Canada at the age of eighteen. She settled in New Westminster, and in 1914 married H. A. Augustine, with whom she had eleven children.

The Augustines lived in New Westminster for eight years, then in Cloverdale for another two years. In 1924 they moved to Nicomen Island. Emmy was known to be gregarious, and have a pleasant and positive outlook. She was devoted to her church and sang in the church choir. She died at age thirty-six, not liong after the birth of her eleventh child.
