Our Garden Project – Intergenerational
With enthusiasm and great passion a group of eager students and teachers from Fraserview Learning Centre were given permission to use the triangle spaces for a garden plot for some veggie starts. They went to Heritage Park Senior Secondary plant sale on May 7th with twenty dollars given by the principal, Kevin Watrin and the same amount generously matched by Lifetime Learning Centre. While choosing the plants, the FLC students gained knowledge of the plant varieties from the Horticultural students of HPSS. –Diane Jorden
May 11th, 2015 – A gathering of teachers and students then organized themselves together with staff from LLC to plant the items purchased from HPSS plant sale; tomatoes, potatoes, peppers and lavender. The decision to use the back triangle over-looking the school playing field was made as this area receives lots of sunshine. One student enjoyed the digging part while others decided where the best spots for each item should go. Although one of girls didn’t want to get her hands dirty, before long she began helping by removing the greens from their containers and then she fully participated; putting two into the ground. Seed potatoes were donated by Betty Ann and they were already sprouting.
